Twenty Eighteen
My usual favorite moments post from 2018. 2018 was a year of gains and losses; left Oregon (a place I called home for more than 5 years), got a MBA from INSEAD and also a new job. Anyway here's the more fun parts of it, I guess 2018 was pretty awesome on the travel aspects. Hope you enjoy. Happy Holidays and Happy 2019! Shall let the pics do the talking. 😬
DECEMBER - Mrauk-Oo, Myanmar 🇲🇲 2 plane rides from Yangon and a 4.5 hours boat ride later.. Finally we are at Mrauk-U.. Here’s one of the endless temples we visited.
DECEMBER - Mrauk-Oo, Myanmar 🇲🇲 The little kids that followed me around town and kept poking my lens with their gun shaped tree branches 😝 they were also really happy when I showed them pics of themselves on the lcd 🤣
DECEMBER - Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar 🇲🇲
DECEMBER - Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭
DECEMBER - Krabi, Thailand 🇹🇭 A sketch and slippery hike at Railey Beach to this viewpoint on the first day of the trip 😅
DECEMBER -Emerald pools in Krabi, Thailand 🇹🇭
JANUARY - Hanoi, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Spent the first day of 2018 roaming the empty yet messy streets of Hanoi post- countdown party. Hopped onto an uber moto with mad driving skills. Driving and texting on a motorcycle weaving through the no traffic light streets and Americans claim Asians are bad drivers.. Really? 🤔
JANUARY - Sapa, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Kids of my homestay, Vi and Ahn. While she was preparing dinner for us with her wood + charcoal stove.. her kids were playing with my iPhone.
FEBRUARY - The ridiculously dense Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 🇻🇳 from above.
FEBRUARY - Sunrise at the evercrowded Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia 🇰🇭 where I was standing in shin deep mud haha
FEBRUARY - Tonlé Sap lake, Cambodia 🇰🇭 Little kid floating in a styrofoam box on Tonlé Sap lake rowing his “boat” around asking for money. So sad Eugene donated a buck 😰
MARCH - Perth, Australia 🇦🇺
MARCH - The Pinnacles, Australia 🇦🇺 Insanely cool Mars looking landscape at the Pinnacles at sunset before some awesome milky way skies.
MARCH - Taipei 101, Taiwan 🇹🇼
APRIL - MacRitchie Reservoir, Singapore 🇸🇬 1st DJI Spark flight haha
MAY - Sigiriya Lion Rock, Sri Lanka 🦁🇱🇰 The ancient lion rock fortress of Sri Lanka. Apparently a Sri Lanka king built his palace on the rock. Eventually converted to a Buddhist monastery and finally became an UNESCO site. Looks pretty awesome from above.
MAY - Colombo Train Station, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
JUNE - London 🇬🇧 Flat iron steak and Monmouth coffee was amazing haha
JUNE - Tel Aviv, Israel 🇮🇱 Israel is often compared to be as dynamic as Silicon Valley. However, Israel is truly unique with its cultural and entrepreneurial traits. From the experiences I heard over the week of exploring its ecosystems, I was extremely impressed with the startup nation; the military aspects, the infrastructure that truly supports entrepreneurship and even the 3.5 hours security check that emptied my entire bag before my flight out 😂
JUNE - Jaffa Port, Israel 🇮🇱 Ran by this area almost every morning in Israel. Reminded me of Cinque Terre in Italy 😍
JULY - Last min Jordan research on the Dead Sea, Jordan 🌊🇯🇴🤣
Was at the Dead Sea across the border in Masada, Israel couple days back and water was perfectly reflective and calm. However, it was really windy in Jordan. Crashing waves resulted in some damages; hurting wounds, Jordan travel guide and a Nikon remote. 😝
JULY - Petra, Jordan 🐫🇯🇴 5 nights, 1 cancelled flight ticket, 2 hours on skype with the agent, 1079km drove in a Toyota Corolla and became 3 shades darker. Here’s one from my 4th of 7 wonders.
The roads of Jordan were ridiculously hard to drive where people don’t like to keep their headlights on at night, don’t like to drive in the lanes, randomly drives in the opposite direction on highways and the chaos at roundabouts. Survived. 😂
JULY - Doha, Qatar 🇶🇦 Roaming the aisles of Souq Waqif, where Bedouins and locals used to trade livestocks. 😬
JULY - Spend the summer at Dell, Singapore 🇸🇬 had a lot of fun and also learned a ton from my Korean boss and fellow coworkers. Love it ALOT.
AUGUST - Marks the 1st in 12 National Days I actually got to spend in Singapore. Pretty nice seeing everyone dressed in red and white at ION. Kit Chan's Home is on repeat as usual 🤣 and it's the time of the yr to loop some NDP songs and I was basically on a fireworks shooting spree. 😊🇸🇬 #SG53 #majulah
AUGUST - Melaka, Malaysia 🇲🇾
SEPTEMBER - Changi Beach, Singapore 🇸🇬 Totally reminded me of Cannon beach in Oregon.
SEPTEMBER - First time at F1 Singapore 🏎🇸🇬
OCTOBER - #ShotoniPhoneXS Really like this!
OCTOBER - Shanghai, China 🇨🇳 #ShotoniPhoneXS Interesting week learning more about copycats, innovative ideas and the role of the government in the progress of the Chinese economy. However, my biggest takeaway was how crowded China truly is. #somanypeopleeverywhere
NOVEMBER - Beijing, China 🇨🇳 Great Wall of China peppered with fall colours but not people. Moments of peace before the cable car crowd came by from behind. (5 of 7 new world wonders checked)
NOVEMBER - Beijing, China 🇨🇳 “Foggy” aka really bad air morning at Forbidden City, Beijing with some fall colours before the crowd arrives 🤣
NOVEMBER - Beijing, China 🇨🇳 The humongous egg of Beijing. it’s like a Tamagotchi 🐣 or Digimon 👾 about to hatch haha feels so out of place amongst the forbidden city and traditional looking buildings/structures in Beijing.
NOVEMBER - Holland Village, Singapore 🇸🇬 Monsoon season in Singapore and my first lightning attempt. not too bad an attempt I guess.
DECEMBER - Multnomah Falls, Oregon 🇺🇸 with Lance. Great week meeting and catching up with friends in Portland. :)
DECEMBER - Mount Hood, Oregon 🇺🇸 Ridiculously cold morning snowshoe with Justin. Haven’t felt like my fingers and toes were falling off in a long time.
DECEMBER - San Francisco, California 🇺🇸 The everchanging landscape of SF with the new Salesforce building with a dance on the digital panel by night.
DECEMBER - Golden Gate Bridge, California 🇺🇸 got all drenched but somehow I really liked the foreground waves of this pic. 😊
And finally Happy Holidays and Happy 2019, looking forward to my last trip of 2018.. I promise..
